Volunteering with us
Find out more about volunteering with Public Voice and how it can make a difference to your life, and the lives of others.
Why volunteering matters
Our volunteers play a vital role across many of our services and projects.
Volunteering with us can help you develop skills, gain experience and make a real difference, both in your life and the lives of people in your local community. As an organisation with a local focus, Public Voice is uniquely placed to involve volunteers in our mission to improve public services and help residents get the best from them.
If you’re a ‘people person’ who enjoys being out and about in the community, volunteering with us could be the right choice for you. You’ll meet new people, learn new skills, enjoy social events and earn Tempo Time Credits to exchange for leisure opportunities.
Healthwatch volunteers
Our Healthwatch volunteers help to give people and patients a voice on the health and social care services they use. They carry out surveys and visits in hospitals, GP practices and other community locations to gather information from service users, and to promote the Healthwatch service. The information they gather is fed back to decision makers to help shape future health and social care services.
Community navigation volunteers (Haringey)
Our community navigation volunteers support our Reach and Connect team in Haringey, from hosting Conversations Cafes and enabling residents over 50 to improve their conversational English, to supporting our ‘Read and Connect’ sessions and our ‘Men on the Move’ walking group.
Information and guidance volunteers
Our volunteers help us to provide information and guidance about health, housing, education, money, the law and more on community stalls and at events. Volunteers help us to get set up, offer information, and note more complex queries for follow up by our team.
Joint Partnership Board (Haringey)
The Board ensures that vulnerable groups in Haringey have a voice in the way NHS services and social care are provided for them. The Board is made up of NHS and Adult Social Care service users, and Haringey Council, NHS, Healthwatch Haringey and Public Voice staff. Use the ‘Find out more’ button to get involved.
Success stories
Healthwatch Haringey – GP registration survey
Healthwatch Haringey volunteers called or visited all GP practices in the borough to carry out a survey on barriers to GP registration for patients. Many GP practices were wrongly requesting documentation that is not a requirement under NHS guidance, and patients were being refused access.
The survey data was collated, a report was published with key recommendations, and a stakeholder event was held to rectify this situation. This resulted in the development of digital and print materials to help people understand their rights to register with a GP in Haringey. A leaflet and poster entitled ‘Do you need to see a doctor?’ was co-produced with NHS North Central London Integrated Care Board (NCL ICB), Haringey GP Federation, Doctors of the World, Haringey Welcome, Haringey Council and voluntary sector partners, with distribution across the borough.
Age Well Festival
Our volunteers took part in this celebration of later life held in Bruce Castle Park in Tottenham. Their roles included setting up the festival, meeting and greeting attendees at the park gates, supporting activities and acting as buddies to people who requested extra support. Along with glorious sunshine, the volunteers’ input helped make the Festival a resounding success!
Haringey Community Showcase
Residents and representatives of over 50 voluntary and community organisations are invited to showcase their work and hear results of the Haringey Community Awards, presented by Haringey’s Mayor. Public Voice volunteers help welcome participants, direct people around the building and serve refreshments to help the day run smoothly. This is an annual event.
